Making cookies can be a great holiday tradition. But for children with tactile defensiveness to sticky, messy, and unpredictable textures, this holiday tradition might not be at the top of your child’s “Fun Activities” list.
If your child doesn’t want to participate but you love cookie-baking, you can still include him/her in the holiday tradition by making some Holiday Cloud Dough that they can turn into “cookies”.
Why Cloud Dough?
- It’s soft and doesn’t really stick to your hands but sticks to itself
- You can scent it with peppermint, vanilla, or gingerbread if your child enjoys the smells but not the tactile experience of cookie making
- Your child can add sprinkles, glitter, or any other holiday coloring to the dough that is a tolerable replacement for decorating icing
- Your child can still use your cookie cutters while sitting in the kitchen at their own “Cookie Making” Station while you work on your holiday treats.
Whatever you do this holiday season, build new memories and enjoy time with the ones you love.
