Does your child struggle with any of the following disabilities? Click on the diagnosis to learn how we address the unique needs of each profile.
Children with learning deficits struggle to process and integrate information from their senses in order to self-regulate and learn. As the amount of time spent on screens increases, these children are even more vulnerable to the impact of screen time on their development and long-term success. Children use information from all their senses to adapt and respond to the world around them. When these systems are out of balance, they experience issues with body control, communication/social skills, sustained attention, self-regulation, behavioral control, and development of higher order thinking/reasoning skills.
Our Body Activated Learning Framework combines our expertise in sensory integrative treatment with our knowledge of functional vision deficits and strategies to promote recovery from skill demands. By identifying each child’s unique combination of sensory, motor, and learning needs; we tailor our treatment plans to empower children to gain the skills they need to learn and engage with the world around them. Children and parents are educated on ways to balance sensory and motor needs with screen-based activity to optimize learning and success for life. This digital generation requires a unique approach beyond traditional medically-based services to implement a program of support and empowerment, giving you and your child the tools for success.
Evaluation and Intervention
Sensational Achievements offers three tiered packages of evaluation and intervention.
Occupational Therapy Screening targets specific parent concerns including sensory processing issues impacting self-regulation and behavior, concerns regarding postural control and coordination, handwriting, and functional visual skills impacting use of vision to guide body movement. The evaluation is 1 hour in length and focused on the area of concern identified by the parent. Parents will receive a written report with insurance-friendly wording and treatment plan.
Comprehensive Occupational Therapy Evaluation is approximately 2 hours in length, consisting of 1 hour of standardized testing and 1 hour of clinical observations of sensory, visual, and motor deficits to identify sensory processing issues impacting self-regulation, learning, and motor skill development. Parents will receive a written report and goals outlining the focus of treatment. Parents will also receive access to the Body Activated Learning ebook and resources.
Independent Educational Evaluations are typically 6 hours in length along with a school observation evaluating a wide range of sensory, gross and fine motor, visual motor, visual perceptual, and graphomotor abilities that may be impacting a child’s ability to participate in the school environment and access the curriculum. A full file review is also conducted to gain relevant information about each child’s unique profile. Recommendations for programming and educational supports are provided and reviewed with the school team. These evaluations are typically requested by a parent and completed at the expense of the district’s Board of Education. Private educational evaluations are also available with an option to add on a school observation.
Therapeutic Intervention
Recommended intervention packages are based on the outcomes of the evaluation and include a goal planning session, parent progress meetings via phone or in-person, written progress updates, and home program planning/support.
