On this COVID Holiday season, take the opportunity to continue to build new memories to cherish with your children for a lifetime. While it’s fun for some to spend the holidays with extended family and cousins galore, for others it’s sensory overload. Instead, enjoy the holiday season with some fun activities that get kids off their screens, moving, and into the holiday spirit. These activities are easy and fun without costing a fortune.
Get creative for kids who have sensory and motor difficulties or trouble completing multi step sequences. Using a gift or ornament to collect along the way is an easy way to help a child stay engaged while completing the sequence because it gives them a goal to focus on even when the motor demands may be challenging. Add a pillow pile to jump into a “pile of snow” for extra sensory input, riding in Santa’s sleigh using a scooter or bike, or using delivery boxes to make some chimneys to deliver gifts.
The possibilities this COVID holiday season are endless. Holidays are a time to build happy memories with the ones you love. Maybe this is an opportunity for you child with sensory needs to feel like they can run, jump crash, and play with all they intensity he/she desires while still getting in the holiday spirit with family.
