Following a classroom screening, children who have been identified as benefitting from additional support services will have an opportunity to sign up for on-site small group occupational therapy sessions.
Sessions will utilize the principles and concepts of Body Activated Learning. Whole-body movement, fine motor, and prewriting activities will be combined to support development of foundational motor skills and kindergarten-readiness. Sessions will occur weekly over a 6-week period with a progress summary and follow-up recommendations at the end of each 6-week rotation. Parents will also receive weekly body homework and activity suggestions to support carryover at home.

We offer staff development trainings based on the concepts of Body Activated Learning and specifically geared toward teachers working with toddlers and preschoolers. Teachers will learn how to identify possible sensory and motor deficits as well as create a supportive classroom environment that fosters self-regulation and skill development. Topic-specific workshops, classroom consultation services, and parent in-services are also available.

Groups will be led by an Occupational Therapist knowledegable in feeding interventions. Techniques include the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach in combination with Beckman Oral Motor Techniques, MORE: Integrating the Mouth with Sensory and Postural Functions, and Food Chaining.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Food Explorers” tab_id=”1455484978-2-50″][vc_column_text]Children will explore the sights, textures, temperatures, smells, and sounds of a wide variety of foods. Food exploration is embedded in play activities and food-based crafts and projects to guide and support food exploration and build exposure to foods.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab tab_id=”44af1af2-047d-2″ title=”Give It a Try!”][vc_column_text]Using a fun food theme each week, children will experience a variety of foods from each of the food groups. The steps to trying new foods will be introduced (tolerate on plate, touch with utensil/ tool, smell, touch, taste/ lick, bite, “safe spot”, chew, swallow).
